It is with many emotions, thoughtfulness, and nervousness that we are announcing the closure of Gladys Bikes. There isn’t one specific reason why we’ve come to this decision but rather several industry changes, financial situations, and the perfect timing of our lease being up; now really is a great time to end this 10 year chapter for us. Gladys has made a palpable impact in the cycling industry and greater community. We are hopeful the people will keep the vibes going and that bike shops in general will hold themselves to a higher standard of inclusion and kindness. Though Alberta Street will be losing Gladys it will be gaining the mighty Golden Pliers, who I am confident will steward the space and customers beautifully!! I’m sure there will be a lot of questions, and we will hopefully have answers as this transition takes place. In the meantime come through the shop for our final few weeks of open hours to buy all the things at a wild discount. (check out our website for more FAQ, specific dates, or send us an email). To the past, present, and future my loves! It’s been real!!!

It’s been advised to not travel if you don’t need to today so we are going to do just that! The forecasted ice storm situation is historically a really dangerous time so make sure you’re checking on your neighbors and stay warm friends! Every year we try and put together a list of practical gifts for the cyclists in your life 🎁HERE IS THAT LIST OF GOOD AND AFFORDABLE GIFTS 🎁 🛄MULTIFUNCTIONAL BAGS: Bags that can attach in multiple different spots and that are easy to take on and off can be awesome gifts for riders who are using their bike for multiple different styles of riding. Also sometimes a bag needs a cleaning but you don’t want to be without a little spot to stash your lock or spare gloves! 🍾FUN & ZIPPY BOTTLE CAGES: It’s true that a lot folks have a very specific style or vibe they are going for but sometimes it can be fun to add a splash of color or pizazz every now and again. They are easy to take on and off and usually really affordable gifts that show you are thinking of them and the bike they love. 🟣THE PNW COMPONENTS MULTI-TOOL: The Pebble tool has quickly become a shop favorite. It’s perfect for all the necessary adjustments for most riding. They are very light, can get into tight spaces, have exactly what you need, and don’t have what you don’t need. Most importantly they look really cute. Most of us riders do have a specific tool kit we use for touring or longer journeys but this one is always within quick reach since it fits in your pocket or those weird little pockets on some bags. 🧤🧤ALL THE LAYERS! Even if your riding friend has the exact gloves they want chances are those things are going to get stinky and wet and it never hurts to have a dry and warm pair of socks, shoe covers, winter cap, or wool gloves(or good poly blends). Most of us here at the shop rotate through a couple pairs of gloves a week when it’s really coming down! 🚦🏮VERSATILE LIGHTS: Even if you have a dynamo light set up we highly recommend these Knog Plus lights for extra visibility or spare lights in a pinch. They don’t require a cord because the light itself if the USB, they have a little slot that makes it easy to clip onto your bag or back pocket and the can attach almost anywhere on your bike. We literally love these. Come through the shop and get them while supplies last ⚡️⚡️

Hey folks! It’s no secret that this is the slow season...and let me tell you it’s slow!!! 🦥 We have a wide open service schedule and wide open hearts. If you have the financial means and put a bike away after the summer riding season that maybe wasn’t riding as smoothly as you would have liked, now is a GREAT time to get that bike spruced up. It helps us shop folks pay the bills AND it means that when Spring comes around all you have to do is put some air in those lovely tires and you are ready to roll! Rather than wait weeks cause we are all booked out. There are so many fantastic shops in town. We hope you come to Gladys but we would love it if you went to any local shop cause I’m sure lots of places could use the workflow and it helps keep Portland a town filled with amazing weirdos that bike! End of speech, love ya! ❤️

🍂Seasons of change my sweet friends! With all the bike shop shifts in NE Portland we have been trying our darn best to get and keep folks on bikes, all while maintaining our high quality standards and doing our best to stay cute and friendly!!
