Are you curious about riding a century, but not sure where to start with training? Have you logged Miles on a few longer Rides, but have questions and/or want some more Ride Buddies?
The CENTURY Curious Club is for you.
—— The Basics ——
The Century Curious Club is a training, community and support group for people who want to ride a century and/or learn some tips about long distance riding, while making some friends in the process.
The idea to start it came from a small group of folks who wanted to try riding the Swift Summit, but weren’t sure where to start with training and wanted a supportive community to ride with — and so here we are, trying to create that community! The club will be modeled after Gladys Bikes’ popular Cross Curious Club, where having fun and offering social support will be every bit as important as building riding skills.
—— The Organizers ——
The idea for the Century Curious Club was born from a collaborative community of riders — some with lots of long distance riding experience and some who are looking to ride their first century, or even 20+ mile ride. All rides and clinics will be led by non-binary, women and/or trans riders.
—— The Participants ——
You, hopefully! The club is gender inclusive and open to all.
Experience/Fitness: At a minimum, you should be able to ride 20 miles in 2 hours in order to get the most out of this club.
Bikes: All bikes are welcome! As long as you feel comfortable on it and feel up to riding many miles on it, that’s all that matters!
(Please email if you have any questions about whether or not this would be right for you - firstname.lastname@example.org)
—— The Structure ——
There are two components to the Century Curious Club: Weekly training rides and bi-weekly educational clinics.
1. The Rides - Training rides of progressively increasing distances will happen every Saturday in June and July start times will be between 8am and 10am (depending on distance):
6/1 - 20 miles
6/8 -25 miles
6/15 -30 miles
6/22 -40 miles
6/29 -45 miles
7/6 - 55 miles
7/13 - 60 miles
7/20 - 70 miles
7/27 - 80 miles
8/10- Swift Summit 100! (Optional)
Want to register, but can’t make it to all the rides? No problem. We know that everyone’s schedules are busy and doubt that anyone will make it to them all.
2. The Clinics - Every other Wednesday at 6pm, starting on May 22 there will be educational clinics with pros to help you train for your long ride:
5/22 - Kick-off/ Training 101
6/5 - Bike Fit
6/19 - Nutrition
7/2 - Stretching and Recovery
7/17 - Roadside Maintenance
7/31 - We all have emotions and it’s great! (Aka support and suggestions for how to manage the exhaustion, stress, self-doubt, frustration and other emotions that can come up while training for a new challenge)
