Bicycle Mechanic and Saddle Library Coordinator

This position will be responsible for working with directly with customers -- some days primarily in a mechanic capacity, others in sales -- and also assisting with the behind-the-scenes activities of coordinating the Saddle Library (aka our saddle test/demo program). This position will require technical proficiency in bicycle assessment and repair procedures, attention to detail,  the ability to act as a welcoming, friendly and approachable ambassador of Gladys Bikes, and an interest in having a whole lot of fun while at work.

 

Position Description

Bike Mechanic and Retail Sales 

• Engage customers in a retail setting, guiding them through the bike/saddle/accessory/component buying process

• Assess and repair bicycles and parts in order to perform customer repairs

• Assist lead mechanic in custom bike builds (including those for Sweetpea Bicycles)

• Make everyone who walks through the doors feel as welcome, respected and heard as is possible

Saddle Library Coordinator 

• Work with buyer to maintain stock of all saddles in library weekly counts

• Manage member database, sending reminders for prompt saddle returns

• Help buyer research new saddles to carry in the library

General Shop Support 

• Input inventory into point-of-sales system

• Help keep workspaces and common areas clean

• Use your creativity to dream up new ways to engage customers

• Routining have ridiculously amounts of fun at work

 

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as a mechanic in a bike shop, or equivalent

• Ideal candidate would have an interest in learning more about bicycle fit

• Consistent attention to detail and a methodical approach to service

• Willingness to accept guidance and feedback related to job duties

• Experience using Google Drive and openness to learning new computer programs

• Ability to physically complete job duties including lifting up to 50lbs

The Details

Hours/ week: 20-24

Schedule: 3-4 days/week, approx. 10am-7pm

Term: March-September, with the opportunity for year-round employment

Pay: DOE
